Art By Viktor Miller Gausa, Syktyvkar, Russia
My name is Viktor Gausa. “Miller” is my “nom de guerre”, which appeared during my postsecondary studies. I spend most of my spare time drawing and while studying at the University I have finally decided that this is exactly what I’d like to do. When I am free from work, I prefer drawing, however I try to find some time for reading and watching movies, of course.
As for preferred technique, I would say that art drawing is my favourite, both black and white and colour paintings with a tint of watercolours. To tell the truth, I’d rather draw on a paper than use computer programs. Digital illustrations have their advantages too, so it would be wrong to say that I don’t create arts in digital format. Usually I get inspired from something ephemeral, from glimpses caught somewhere halfway through. This usually happens spontaneously and I don’t keep this whole process under control. For me it is impossible to get inspired intentionally by something particular or generally accepted and have that meditative look as if I generate new ideas and images.
Such “throes of creation” are not typical of me. The inspiration can creep up on me and take me when I see a wet-through courtyard and a black dog with tail between legs, half-hidden in yellow autumn leaves rather than at a pompous opening ceremony of some exhibition with a concert band and paintings in expensive frames. The inspiration just comes and stays with me for a while. The only thing I need to do is to get on with it and start drawing, or more exactly, start thinking and drawing.
